With reference to guitar and bass, I attended a very good concert by Redbridge Brass and Goff Richards about three years back which used a bass and suggested to Black Dyke that they might consider the use of a bass guitar in their big band music. I also suggested they might create a trend by using a female volcalist in their (say) big band arrangements where approapriate; afterall they broke the all-male tradition when Linda Nicholson and Helen Fox played with them.
