Yes, I have written for rhythm section with brass band on one or two
recording sessions and it works remarkably well. The string or electric
bass makes a much better interpretation of jazz or rock bass lines than
can the tubas.

After all, under contesting rules, bands are allowed to augment with
percussion instruments, and any instrument that is struck or plucked comes
under the heading of percussion. This includes guitar, pianoforte,
harpsichord, harp, celeste and even pizzicato or col legno strings. One
exception maybe is the electric keyboard, but even these now have touch
sensitive keys (the harder you hit 'em, the louder the output) and they do
produce a percussive sound if you are using them as an acoustic piano.

Well that's it, in just two days we have almost completely destroyed the
original concept of the brass band with the inclusion of french horns,
trumpets and rhythm section instruments. All that is left now is to open
the doors to saxophones and flutes. Well, they are fabricated from brass,
aren't they?
