I attended an invitation contest on Saturday in the Carnegie Hall, 
Dunfermline. I liked the format of the contest. The top four sections 
performed a test-piece of their own choice; the fourth section bands did 
a programme. (If I understand correctly, the section chosen to do the 
programme is different each year). 

This made for an interesting contest. The range of test-pieces was very 
broad, including The Essence of Time, Pagannini Variations, Partita, 
Cambridge Variations, Montage and many others. Unfortunately, I didn't 
hear any of the Championship Section performances as I had to go to a 
concert in the evening. Does anyone know the results? (I suppose the 
favourites in the Championship Section must have been Whitburn).
