Couldn't agree with you more.

Starting a British brass band in the US is tough!  I'm gradually trying
to work into it with our group.  Using trumpets, (just try finding
cornets and then getting trumpet players to put down their Bach Strads!),
and French horns with flugel and Eb trumpet and lower brass, (try finding
an Eb tuba player in the States too!)   Not to mention treble clef
reading for lower brass.

Most do not even know what an alto or tenor horn is.

We are moving to more brass band literature- I just transpose for French
horns and bass clef instruments.

It is a lot of work, but we are getting it done.  Maybe some day......
