You may well be correct about the plucked instruments Darren. I have scanned what reference books I have, but have been unsuccessful in finding any connection between plucking and percussion. The books I have, also state that although the pianoforte has a percussive action, it is to be classed as a string instrument. It is interesting to note also, that a few instruments played by the percussionist are in fact not percussion instruments at all. Stuff like whistles, sandpaper blocks, wobble boards, wind machines etc., etc. I guess there are a few instruments that just don't know what family they belong. eg., Brass instruments that are made of wood (Serpent) and Woodwind instruments that are made from brass (Saxophone, Flute).
