Flugel is the correct name of the INSTRUNMENT, as has been mentioned already. Rep is the name of the PART the cornet plays. A little bit of thought - this is derrived from ripieno, but the part (in its modern usage) doesn't fill this role. More acurately, 2nd to 4th man are the ripieno (solo) cornets, supplementing the principal. The rep part could be more accuratly labeled 1st cornet, to show how it works within the back row. Many composers now do this, including Wilby, Gregson, Howarth. Personally I find this a bit confusing, as I expect 2 players on the part when it is labeled this way. I think we all know what is meant by a Repiano though. -- Alastair Wheeler Euphonium & Trombone Fundamental Brass Bass Trombone City of Oxford Brass Band Alastair@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://users.ox.ac.uk/~newc0349 "I am following my fish" -- unsubscribe or receive the list in digest form, mail a message of 'help' to listserver@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
