Re: Request for Info.

Angela asked about information regarding "Mattheson's Air"

The piece is thought to have been from a sonata by Johann Mattheson (1681 -
1764) who was a contemporary of Bach, Handel (of whom he was a good friend)
and Dominico Scarlatti.

The arrangement for Cornet Solo and Band was done by Gilbert Vinter for the
G.U.S. (Footwear) Quartet and Band and was to feature on a recording made in
the late 60's with the three Quartets Gilbert wrote for them on one side of
the record and a collection of various Baroque pieces featuring the Quartet
and the Band on the other side. However, "Mattheson's Air" was left out of the
released recording for some reason I'm not aware of.

It has subsequently been recorded by at least a couple of Bands - Bryan Taylor
and the Williams Fairey Engineering Band on the first of their two CD's
featuring the music of Gilbert Vinter released by Polyphonic (the label set up
by Gilbert and Stan Kitchen to publish Gilbert's music, I believe,) springs
instantly to mind.

Hope this helps you a little.

Cheers,
Sandy
