Re: Vibrato

Ralph, firstly to put the matter straight both Phillip and Russell are
Scottish and probably would not like to be called Englishmen. I first came
into contact with Russell when he toured Aus with B.D.M band in 1988 and
have listened to his development, sometimes from afar sine ,he is a very
fine player and technichian ,having had the opportunity for him to work
with my band on two separate occasions. The main point of my posting was
the way in which trumpet playing effects the sound you make on the cornet,
if that is what you want fine, but don't try to tell me it makes no
difference. I listened to your band on the test at Easter and without
knowing them at all I would say that there was a lot of trumpet influence
in your sound particulary the second man who played most of the solo's (not
saying they were bad at all).

Phillips playing at all times is artistry listen to the B.D.M. C.D.of
Rossini's music and people still talk of him holding the note in Contest
music for 15 seconds I'm quite sure other players could hold it for longer
but it is the approach to and to the note after that to me make it so
memorable .

Now to Andy Wooler,

Is your memory short (it might be your age Andy) or don't you ever listen
to the early C.D's of B.D.M.from these he's obviously very well suited and
more than capable for doing more than his World Melody C.D's, you see
these sell to the general public and I feel thats who he is trying to reach
with these melodies, the general public couldn't care less how well you can
play" Pandora" (IMHO).

At least we might have changed the subject from the role of French horns in
Brass bands (in all my years I've never seen a part for them on any of my
scores)

If there is a need to include these Orchestral instuments perhaps a new
page for a Brass Orchestra could be started!!!!
