Hello all you bairnes out there!!!!!! and you are 'only' bairnes.....* In July 1815, yes 1815, local press and archive material states that on the 10th of that month 22-18s-0d was raised to purchase instruments for a local 'town band'. It was a subscription band and some of the instruments were not of a brass nature. The first documented evidence that the band was a brass band was a parade for the Union Society on 19th July 1856. It is believed that the band was a brass band when it paraded for the coronation of George IV 28th July 1821. The bands first recorded contest was the 1867 Kirkdale Floral & Agricultural Contest but no results were registered. The first recorded contest win was in 1886 when the band played 'Norma' and ' William Tell '. So as you can see, Kirkbymoorside Town Brass Band are the true old boys of the band world ???? unless of course you know different. http://www.wakeley.demon.co.uk/kirkbyband.htm Bye for Now David Wakeley Greenbank, Amotherby, Malton North Yorks, YO17 OHP www.ryedale.co.uk david@xxxxxxxxxxxxx *(lads) -- unsubscribe or receive the list in digest form, mail a message of 'help' to listserver@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
