Stolzel's valve was indeed patanted in 1818 (jointly with his collaborator
Freidrich Bluhmel, a player in a miner's band) but was actually first noted in
use on a "Waldhorn" as early as 1815 in Breslau (in Upper Silesia, Germany I
think).
