I COULD NOT AGREE MORE

I THINK ALAN MORRISONS STYLE OF PLAYING IS THE
ROLE MODEL FOR YOUNG CORNET PLAYERS AND HIS CLEAR
SOUND AND GUESS HOW HE STARTED?? ON TRUMPET
IN A BIG BAND, NOW ALL YOU OLD STICK IN THE MUD BRASS
BANDS PERSONS.
Q WHO WAS PRINCIPAL CORNET IN GRIMETHORPES HAY DAY
UNDER FRANK RENTON WHEN THEY WERE WINNING EVERYTHING??
 A ALAN MORRISON
TRUMPET PLAYING DIDNT HARM HIM TOO MUCH!!!
TRY SOME OF HIS CORNET SOLOS GOOD STYLE
    I,VE PLAYED MANY OF THEM.

A REPLY TO TROND OTTO BERG & J HUGHES
Why do we, the traditionalists, accept this interferece. What would have
happen
> if we had come to a wind band/symphony orcestra with our brilliant Eb-
tenorhorn
> palyers, our exelent Sopranos ......... Would the "winders" accept it like
we
> accept the trumpetsound of our trumpetplayers? Definetly NOT.

ORCHESTRAS I'M SURE WOULD WELCOME BRASS BAND PLAYERS
WHO WANT TO IMPROVE THEMSELVES AND GAIN DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE.
I PLAY IN A SEMI PRO ORCHESTRA AND THE BRASS SECTION DO OR
HAVE PLAYED IN BRASS BAND AT A HIGH STANDARD INCLUDING SOME OF
THE FRENCH HORN PLAYERS.DONT FORGET CORNETS ARE USED QUITE
FREQUENTLY IN ORCHESTRAS FOR TONE COLOURS.
EARLIER THIS YEAR I WAS ASKED TO PEFORM A SOLO WITH AN
ORCHESTRA ON FLUGEL HORN,HARDLY EVER USED IN THIS FIELD.
BUT THE COMPOSER WANTED THIS TONE COLOUR SO WHY NOT
BUT IF I SUGGESTED USING A TRUMPET IN A BRASS BAND IF THE COMPOSER WANTED THAT
STYLE AND SOUND IMAGINE THE UPROAR!!!!
AFTER ALL WHATEVER WE PLAY AND WHATEVER STYLE, WE ARE
ALL HERE TO PRODUCE MUSIC.
ALSO MR OTTO BERG THIS IS NOT AN INTERFERNCE IT IS ADVICE FOR YOUNGER PLAYERS
TO TRY OTHER FORMS OF PLAYING TO HELP
IMPROVE THEIR MUSICAL KNOWLEDGE .
BY THE WAY THIS IS THE MODERN AGE NOT 150 YEARS AGO
& IF BRASS BANDS WANT TO SURVIVE THEY HAVE TO PLAY
STYLES OF TODAY AS WELL AS TRADITION OTHERWISE WHEN ALL
THE TRADITIONALISTS HAVE GONE WE WONT HAVE ATTRACTED ANY
YOUNG PEOPLE TO KEEP THE MOVEMENT ALIVE PLAYING WISE &
AUDIENCE WISE.
