A couple of people have mentioned "theme" concerts. To give support to
this, I played last night with the Sussex Symphony Orchestra in what was
billed as "A Puccini Extravaganza". Add 2 superb soloists from the English
National Opera, a compere who spoke clearly and added to the occassion and
end result, 1000 people in the audience who had a great evening. 
Whilst it's not a brass band story, the principle is the same. 
Interestingly, another concert tonight in the town by the RPO had only
sold half as many tickets. No theme to their programme, just "another"
orchestral concert.
