Most of the villages who run contests have presentation nights about a
month afterwards in a local pub/band club, sometimes with a scratch band
playing a short concert. If representatives of prize winning bands do not
turn up, the prizes are posted on usually.

Not usually. Also, bands do have preferences of where they have their
drink afterwards, we (B&R) have to "book in" in advance to make sure we can
go to Boarshurst band club afterwards, because it gets really busy and also
because we don't get there until just before 12 (for our 1st drink of the
night !!).

It can be quite difficult if you don't know the area. The police do close
the roads in certain places but let band coaches and local residents (who
are usually issued with a pass) through. As a competing band it is wise to
plan your route in advance, that way you will get round more contests.

Look at the list of results in the Brass Band World (or British Bandsman ?)
of all the village names in Tameside and Saddleworth who had contests this
year, and that will be at least 95% of your list for next year. Especially
within the Saddleworth villages, you won't have a problem finding the
contest !! Most start at 4.30pm.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, it is a great event.

Martin.
