I live on the West Coast of Canada, Vancouver British Columbia, and other than a few Chandos 'old' releases at the Virgin record shop, there is really sweet tweet for brass band selections. I have had to resort to going to my friends at Egon, Midland, Doyen, Chandos, Poly, etc. to get my 'fix'. Needless to say it ends up being costly. I do believe that a couple of the bands in the U S have recorded some. Triangle is one band that comes to my mind. In the Vancouver area, other than a couple of Salvation Army bands, there is a local band called Little Mountain Brass. Gene Chan who watches this list probably can fill you in more as to the instrumentation. I was to get out to hear them last month, but got called away to work.( I do understand they use those dreaded 'F' horns however!) There are of course recording of various Salvo Bands across North America as well as Hannaford, which I still think sound very sterile. I was interested in reading Dave Buckley's previous remarks when he wrote of Bob Child, Matt Baker, & Jim Watson being with them earlier this year. I hope they have a recording in the works. Now I shall hope this stirs some company to think of us in the hinterland. It is extremely expensive to purchase C D' s outside of the country. My latest calculation for something like Egon's Deep Harmony, in Canadian $ is now $31.00. (You then can think of getting nabbed by the Customs and Excise if the inspector does not think you should be having free import and it is automatically another $5.00 Cdn plus 7% on top of the $31.00. $40.00 adds up quite quickly and when you are on a low fixed / more like unfixed these days, income, you start to question your sanity. Sorry for the long reply, but I have been getting a bit frustrated whah the falling dollar, and the lack of commitment of companies etc to we diehards!
