Obviously your friend who thinks Australian bands are loud and raucous and unmelodic has taken time to listen to all the bands in Australia. Sure, there are some loud and raucous outfits around but you only have to have been at this year's National Championships to realise there are some quite fine, well-balanced and musical bands. Those who made the cut for the CD Australia '98 are certainly not in the category referred to. Australia is no different to any other country in this great big banding family of ours - there's good and bad. Generalisations are not good to encouraging improvement in understanding the requirements of good ensemble performance. As for those in the US/Canada complaining about the cost of importing CDs from the UK, why not try Australia. Geez, the way our dollar is at the moment, we are a cheap place to do business.
