I found that you can significantly improve the life of Wick plating, simply
by giving the mouthpiece a quick wash in cold water after each time you
play it (gets rid of the nasty acids, etc. in your own saliva). This will
also help prevent those nasty little embouchure zits that crop up
occasionally.

I got a wick mouthpiece for my horn about 9 years ago. Within a year the
plating was wearing off and getting rough. Someone suggested a place to get
it re-plated. It was in England somewhere and ridiculously cheap (about 6
quid  I think). I had it silver plated and have never had a problem with it
since. If you like your wick maybe this is an option
