Cutting Down Drums

I was reading some old Artillery minute books and in July
1867 came across the purchase of a drum from Wilkie Webster
& Co for 4 pounds.

Then in October there was an account for
    King (cutting down drums)  4/6.

I don't know if the two entries are related, but can anyone
interpret the phrase "cutting down drums " for me ?   Does
it have some special meaning ?
