Yes of course - I agree 100%!!!   Its so easy to fall into that trap 
because for much of the time (i.e. when we rehearse and contest with 
them) they really are test pieces, and its a convenient term to use 
to bundle them all together for discussion though there must be 
better words to use, for all the reasons you give.
