I work with one of the major retailers in the world of both brass and woodwind
instruments.  
Many times, if a customer has a invoice that is dated some months back, and
the instrument is not in a new box, or has plastic wrap around it to appear as
new,  then the customs authorities tend not to charge for it.  A number of my
clients from overseas that are returning home have been able to slip by un-
noticed and unscathed by the taxman....
