Re: Internet "Oscars"

Hi Andy

Good Idea! :-)

I've noticed over the past year or so a large increase in band web sites
from all levels of the UK bands plus several others around the world.

When I first searched for brass bands there weren't many found but just
look at Nigel's Brass Bands list, Brass band World and extra innovations
such as the Brass band Webring and there are now certainly into the
hundreds of bands of all levels and locations listed. Special thanks go to
Nigel for his initiatives and Gavin Hollman from Harrogate on the Webring! :-)

I must say that I find a lot of the personal and lower section bands have
put together some great interesting and amusing sites....IMHO in many cases
more interesting than the "Big Name" band sites!<G>. What I also find good
is that most sites provide links to other sites and are happy to include
others which add to the community feeling.

>Best Band Website of the Year
>Best Band Association Web Site of the Year
>Most positive contribution to promoting the movement on the Internet
>Best Trade Site on the Internet
>Best Commercial Use of a Brass Band Web Site
>

A good starting set of categories to work on.:-)

Just a thought on the Best band Website...maybe can be subdivided as "best"
can be defined from several angles?....there are several very funny sites,
innovative sites, sites using good multimedia, visually stunning
etc.....and all this considering whether they are done as an unnofficial
band related/instrument site, for a specific band, by professional
companies or individuals etc.

Also, like the "Oscars" perhaps some nominated sites? Not that I think it
should prejudge the results...but a pointer to looking at the sites?....for
band sites there's BBW or Nigel Horne's lists...but I must admit ATM I'm
trying to think of any Band Association sites apart from SCABA in the UK
(sure there are ones in USA etc)

Like a Virtual Image to include on the site?<GG>

Sounds good!

Totally agree on this....as you say, publicity in the band press would also
be good.

This is mine<G>....and thanks for thinking of it and offering to adminster it!
