Re: Internet "Oscars"

Dear all,

By finding a site with a good links page (I won't suggest one for fear of
influencing the voters in any way...), it is possible to nip through a large
number of sites quite quickly. The best sites will probably make an impression
even after a short visit.

Whilst there is no harm in having a "best" site award, some www pages are
striking for different reasons. Some are funny without being particularly
informative; others are structurally sound and user friendly but boring to
look at; others are aesthetically pleasing but slow to download and
frustrating to use. Therefore, it might be an idea to present distinct awards
for these different aspects of web design.

Letting the banding press (principally BBW and BB, I suppose) know is a good
idea. Although the BB web URL appears in most issues of the Bandsman, the
wealth of information about bands on the net has not yet been highlighted
within its hallowed pages. It would be good to let the banding community at
large know about our interactive efforts, not least because the only
significant mention of the internet in the BB to date was an article about
"War on the Internet", which revealed nothing about the ways in which the
internet can and has been used to promote banding...

Also, are you going to allow people to vote for their own band website?
(whether or not they are responsible for designing it). Perhaps voters should
declare the band in which they play when casting their votes.

Regards,

Cameron Mabon
(and web-type-designer-person for the recently redesigned XXXXXXX Band
homepage, to be on-line as soon as I find out how to put it on the new
server!).
