Hi All, I don't know whether this is the reason for the changes regarding bands in the London parks, but a public company called Cardington has secured the rights to develop the commercial potential of Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, Regent's Park, Greenwich Park, Richmond Park, St James's Park, Green Park and Bushey Park. The Government's Royal Parks Agency exists to achieve a balance between the preservation of the open space and the capitalisation of the commercial potential and the Agency has appointed Royal Parks Enterprises Ltd (RPEL) as its marketing and commercial partner. RPEL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cardington plc. Cardington's chairman is Simon Petherick and the Managing Director is Ian Shirley and they have considerable marketing management experience between them. The company operates from Leicester Square, but I don't know the full address. This may or may not be a significant change for some of the big name commercially aware bands, it could also provide more opportunities for fringe concerts or appearances for lesser known bands. It does seem to mean that bands will need to adopt a much more professional and commercial approach in future even for activities as simple as playing in the park!
