A lovely story from the Brighton Evening Argus: Local shopkeeper, Alan Wyle, is trying to swap a statue of queen victoria for a set of brass band instruments! The story goes that the statue used to stand in Victoria Gardens, Aden up until the end of British rule in 1967. Following recent talks, the statue has now been returned from the waste land where it has lain since '67 and now graces the garden of the British Council in Aden. As a gesture of goodwill, the British Ambassador asked the current Governor of Aden, Abdallah Ghanem, what he would like in return - his answer was a complete set of brass band instruments! Alan Wyle heard of this when out in Aden recently for a rememberance day visit and decided to try and help out. If anyone has old/spare instruments that they would like to donate, Mr. Wyle is available on (01798) 813209. This is a genuine posting!
