This is the text of the programme notes from Grimethorpe's CD 'Grimethorpe': A contemporary of Sousa, Robert Browne Hall was a virtuoso cornet player, an outstanding bandmaster and the composer of a great number of excellent marches. In the summer of 1900 he was invited by Colonel Raymond Fitch to rebuild the band of his National Guard, Tenth Regiment of Albany, a band which he described as musically bankrupt. A year later, under Hall's direction, the band had progressed so well that it was invited to join a number of other bands, including Sousa's, at the Pan-American Exhibition on Buffalo. Hall wrote Death or Glory in the band's honour. Regards Alec -- unsubscribe or receive the list in digest form, mail a message of 'help' to
