How about a 'Mock Wedding'?  You choose a bride and groom (who get all
dressed up in all the finery) - then get a hotel to donate or v. cheaply
let you have a reception (or in a band club or such like) then you invite
lots of guests who bring presents .... these presents are then auctioned.

I am at the moment embarking on a sponsored diet for my band.  I am aiming
to lose 6 stone by May (since Nov).  At the moment my total lost stands at
2 stone 11 lb so I am well on target :))
