Cornet players -Reply

One could add Graeme McCulloch in time, but his Mc makes me thinking he's
Scottish to, is he Martin?

I think more or less to Ian Porthouse. Some will have doubts about his bottom
notes and some more details, but he at least has the typical mellow cornet
sound, other top chairs haven't anymore.

On the other hand one shoudl admire Brian Taylor who's on the corner with Fairey
for ages. He's not well known for his solo performances but that means to me,
he's a GREAT BANDSMAN. And that's more important to me.

Should we go back then to Jim Sheperd, who's called by eg people like Derek
Jackson (currently Faireys Bb Bass and Dyke's one for I guess more hten 20
years) to be the greatest leader he ever played with?

I think some English friends could fill in this much more better then I.

Regards
Edy

Mate and I have just finished listening to the new Russell Gray CD.

In a deep and meaningful discussion over a few tinnies (to relieve the
summer heart of course) the question came out: who was the last big name
English cornet player?

The names for at least a decade have been from Scotland - Gray, Webster,
McCann.

Of course there was Jim Davies but he was Welsh.
