well....there are some options depending on space and acoustics,
but...

In Europe (UK not included...I do not know about that) it usually goes
from L-R, 1st to however many.  In the USA, usually, but not always, the
reverse, first on the far right.  The European system gives the principal
player the chance to hear the section better, since they play at him/her.
The system in the USA gives the section a better chance to hear the
principal. 

The section could also be seated in a box shape, depending on space
issues:

		3	4

		1	2

or

		4	3

		2	1
