Seating positions and deafness (was Tenor horns)

I've played in several bands who all sat their horns and flugal in different postions.
I personally think this line up works well solo cornets, flugal, solo horn, 1st horn,2nd horn,2nd baritone, 1st baritone, euphonium for the inner cirlce as the flugal often plays with the solo cornets or the solo horn and the 2nd horn is often with the 2n
d baritone.
I think seating for test pieces should be arranged to suit the piece however I have difficulty understanding how inner circle players handle the volume of sound being blown in their ears on a regular basis.
I normally play on the back row but on the odd occassion we have rearranged our seating and I have had the solo cornets or, worse still, the trombones behind me it has made my ears ring for days.

Question: are most principal cornets deaf from having soprano cornets played in their ears on a regular basis???
