I am writing to members mostly in the Yorkshire/Lancashire region.

As you know I conduct the Elland Youth Band which was formed about 3 years
ago. Until now we have rehearsed in the same place as the Elland Silver
Band. ie in the bands headquarters in Elland, West Yorkshire.

After modernisation of the bands headquarters the youth band now has its
own rehearsal room. The youth band now has 30 members and we have recently
formed a new beginner/training group which has 10 members. Of this we have
three percussionists which now only have a few small percussive instruments
and a drum kit with no cymbals!!

The Elland Silver Band was fortunate in receiving a lottery grant a few
years ago, which provided the youth band with almost a full set of second
hand instruments. However, due to the quick expansion of the youth band
there are not many spare instruments left either

Although we can use the percussion belonging to the Elland Silver Band the
children would like their own as it causes problems when both bands have
concerts on the same days etc.

Basically, I am asking for any bands with old equipment stashed away to get
in touch and put it to good use. We would particularly find an old pair of
timps useful. We have already had a set of music stands etc donated by a
local firm and are appealing for donations to help provide equipment.

We would also welcome any old instruments.

If anyone can help or put me in touch with someone who can, please e-mail
me privately. New instruments are expensive to buy and are not always
necassary.
