On the subject of "Machusla" William Dee mentioned there may be a second hidden meaning It is common in Irish (Gaelic) songs/poetry to refer to Ireland as a young woman, poems/songs were often written in the form of a love poem the subject apparently the woman being in fact Ireland, and the poet procaliming his love of the country and his longing to return there.... The young woman, like the Ireland the poet dreams of (united Ireland etc...) is idolised and described as something of beauty etc. etc.. (so hence, yes some republican undertones)...the dream would be to return to a united Ireland (poet possibly in exile somewhere, or perhaps fled during revolution...) I know there's a phrase for this style of Irish poetry but can't quite remember (my Irish fails me right now!)
