Re: Bagpipes

Dear all,

The traditional band'n'pipes tunes are becoming a bit stale: the likes of
"Amazing Grace", "Scotland the Brave" etc. are effective the first time, but
lose their appeal after 500 hearings. Even "Highland Cathedral" is now
old-hat.

Believe it or not, the pipes are capable of playing more than just Scottish
tunes. The theme from "Jurassic Park" works for pipes, as does "Can you feel
the Love Tonight" (from the Lion King), not to mention Dire Straits' "Walk of
Life". I have heard these and many more arranged for band and pipes.

Somewhat ironically, one thing that the highland bagpipes are incapable of
playing is "Flower of Scotland"...

Regards,

Cameron Mabon
Cornet, City of Oxford Band etc.
