In Memorium - Reg Cutler

Salvation Army bandsmen across Canada will be saddened to hear of the
passing of Reg Cutler, a long-time member of the Dovercourt
Citadel/Etobicoke Temple Band. Reg was 77 and, until his recent illness,
was still playing 2nd euphonium in the Etobicoke Temple Band and solo
euphonium in the Metro Toronto Reservist Band. Excerpts from Reg's
obituary relating to banding follow:

'Salvation Army banding was a major part of Reg's life, first as a
member of the Dovercourt Junior Band (1928) then of the corps' senior
band (1937), where he served as band secretary for 35 years and as an
accomplished euphonium soloist.

During the Second World War he enlisted along with the entire Dovercourt
Band, to form the band of the Irish Regiment of Canada (Reserve).

It is no exaggeration to say that the Cutler family has been the
backbone of the Dovercourt Bands and its successor Etobicoke Temple Band
where family members have served for 93 consecutive years, Reg himself
for 71 years. Recently, in addition to his continuing participation, in
the Etobicoke Temple Band, where he edited the band newsletter Temple
Tempo for 15 years, Reg also found an outlet for his musical ministry as
a member of the Metro Toronto Reservist Band.

No more fitting epitaph to Reg's life and service to his Lord could be
written than that of the band he served so faithfully=85 "The Best for th
e
Highest"'.

Martin Richards,
Bandmaster, Etobicoke Temple Band
