Re: Newcomer Help Website

Hi Mark

As someone has said...you could just use Notepad and code all the HTML
yourself!<GG>

However, that does get a bit long-winded and these days there are several
Editors available that will do a lot of the job in a much easier way.

Three general favourites I've seen in Reviews that are not too expensive
 are:-

1. Microsoft Frontpage 98 - ~=A3105
2. SoftQuad HoTMetaL Pro 5.0 ~=A380
3. Adobe Pagemill 3.0 ~=A370

I use Pagemill and have been pleased with it...you can keep your site
directory structure on your local disk and with drag and drop features
Pagemill does the relative directory locations fine. Also, if you want to
add your own HTML (for web counters, java applets etc) it allows this and,
unlike what I've heard about MS Frontapage in certain situations, it
doesn't change the HTML you insert for it's own version. A lot of people
use HoTMetaL but i have no direct experience of this.

Pagemill doesn't handle some of the latest standards (cascading style
sheets, DHTML etc) but I purposely tend to keep away from the leading edge
technology and specific browser requirements only going as far as Frames<G>.

Good Luck on setting up your pages and don't forget to let Nigel know for
the Brass Band page entry and go to Harrogate Band's site and join the
Brass Band Webring! :-)

Cheers
