Dear All Crystal Palace Band must be one of the cheapest bands around at a current full fee subscription rate of 54 per year (half-rate for UB40, school kids etc.) - payable by instalments. But guess what? We STILL have a few people who are slow to pay up (& can afford to - most probably clearly evidenced by the fact that the same people are down the pub after rehearsal supping beer most weeks!). The slow- and non- payers are only known in detail by the Treasurer, who claims that the defuulters do end up paying eventually. This is all very well but it doesn't help the Band's cashflow much does it? I agree that a large proportion of the Band membership also do not appreciate the effort the committee generally put in the keep the "show on the road". I know I personally do everything I can to secure any leads which may/should end up in bookings for gigs (& therefore income). With our centenary coming up in 2001 we need all the funds we can get to finance the celebrations. Expenses? We don't pay any except to concert deps. (many of whom refuse). To get ourselves to gigs we usually choose to travel independently in about 10 or more cars rather than a coach ----- even to contests (although we have used coaches on occasion, e.g. to Weston-super-Mare just last year, each paying a contribution of approx. 10 per head on the coach for the priviledge - this usually covers hire costs adequately). No-one claims travel expenses to use their car on band business, not even the MD (who is incidentally unremunerated - his choice!) Just thought I would add my contribution to the discussion. Thanks for listening. Bye for now. Angela Tregaskes -- unsubscribe or receive the list in digest form, mail a message of 'help' to
