Radio New Zealand did a similar thing by putting the band programme on at some stupid hour, only to trash the programme entirely at a later date due to "lack of interest". What always p***es me off, is the way the TV and radio people tell us that they don't give brass bands much airtime because "it's a niche market and no-one is interested anymore." What they conveniently forget is, they are the very people who decide what becomes popular and what doesn't. Case in point: Many years ago snooker became popular with millions of kids when it was rammed down their throats for hours on TV. I love a game of snooker as much as the next guy, but let's face it, watching it on TV is as boring as hell, especially on a B&W television. But it became popular and is no longer an old man's sport. Why? ..... Because the people who control the media gave it hours of airtime. Am I talking a load of old bollocks, or does anyone agree with this?
