The University of Warwick music centre is also planning a tour for the year 2000. As most of our groups go on tour every year anyway, it has been decided to attempt to get every group together. The tour would hopefully include: Symphony orchestra (approx 80 players) Chorus and chamber choir (approx 300 singers) Wind orchestra (approx 100 players) Symphonic wind ensemble (approx 30 players) Brass Band (approx 50 members) Symphonic brass ensemble (approx 16 players) Big Band (approx 40 players) and any other music ensembles from our "music live" Student's union common committee. As you can see, this is going to be a Mammoth task to organise. At present we are looking into the possibility of touring North Europe and then returning to do a big concert (or possibly 2) in Symphony Hall, Birmingham. If anyone has any suggestions for venues which may be suitable, please let us know. We are confident that this will be the biggest tour ever organised by a University. If anyone else has any plans for something on this scale, please let us know and we may be able to help each other out. This article can also act as an advert for the University. At Warwick there is no academic music department (except BAQTS with music) and consequently all the music groups are open to everyone (Symphonic wind ensemble and Symphony orchestra winds are auditioned). In addition, the Music Centre is able to award a number of instrumental and keyboard scholarships each year.
