     The following press release has been sent to the band press.

     PRESS RELEASE FROM THE BESSES O' TH' BARN BAND 
     DATE: 22ND FEBRUARY 1999   

     The Besses o' th' Barn Band are pleased to announce the appointment of 
     Anna Hughes as Principal Cornet.  Anna is the first female to hold 
     this position in the bands' 181 year history.

     Anna has previously played Principal Cornet with the Wingates Band and 
     Lewis Merthyr Band.  She has also played for Britannia Building 
     Society and Desford Colliery Bands.  Anna has been playing Repiano 
     Cornet with Besses since December, and replaces Andrew MacDonald who 
     has resigned from the band after 4 years.  The band wishes to thank 
     Andrew for his dedication and loyalty.

     Besses have two "old boys" returning for the North West Area 
     Championship, they are Bernie Logan on Solo Baritone and Keith Lister 
     on Bass Trombone.
