Hi

I managed to subscribe to the list today and am taking up Niger's invitation
to say hello.

I started banding in the 1970s on Baritone with City of Newcastle Youth,
Rising Sun Colliery - later Wallsend Borough, Bolden Colliery and Backworth
Colliery and various deputising around the area. Did contests at the Big
Meeting and the Ashington Gala amongst others. I later moved onto
Euphonium with the non-youth bands and played trombone for a while with
Newcastle Big Band.

Having done the college, marriage, kids bit I hadn't played for about 20
years or so before joining Reddish and Gorton Band in Stockport, Greater
Manchester last September on trombone. I'm only sorry I left it so long.
This non-contesting band is one of the friendliest I've come across and the
whole Brass Band scene has moved on miles since my last involvement. The
most obvious evidence for me was the National Youth finals in Salford in
February and, in particular, the trombone feature (Swinging 'bones?)
performed by Warble High School. I've also rehearsed a few times with
Stockport Band which has helped me get back into the swing of things.

I've already done a few concerts with my new band and cannot wait to do
more, and listen to others in the area as well.

Finding this list was a pleasant surprise along with so much other material
on the net - thanks to Nigel for pulling it together here.

Richard
