Re: Two Grotesques

Deux Grotesques was written by the late Anthony Spurgin under his pen name
of A. Picon. Tony got the name of Picon from the french apperatif of the
same name - he was a copyist at Chappells at the same time as Edrich Siebert
and decided that Spurgin wasn't as showbiz a name as Picon! He was a great
Francophile and was a great asset on band trips to France & Belgium.I don't
recall him writing anything else under that name- he certainly never
mentioned it.
Tony was a tenor horn player although this was not his principal
instrument - he was a pianist and ran many trios and small bands over the
years. He was for many years resident md for the Windsor pantomime and
toured after the war with "Stars in Battledress".
He was a great character as is sadly missed by all who knew him.
