I have just received the itinerary of The Salvation Army International Staff Band's visit to the US this spring. The visit is to encompass the USA Southern and Western Territories: Thursday April 15: Travel Day Friday April 16: Charleston, Municipal Auditorium Saturday, April 17: Washington DC. Lisner Auditorium, George Washington Univ. Sunday April 18: AM Prince George's Corps (Church) PM Jefferson Memorial - with the Salvation Army National Capital Band Evening - Alexandria Corps (Church) Monday April 19: Winston-Salem, Calvary Baptist Church Tuesday April 20: Atlanta, Atlanta Temple Corps (Church) Wednesday April 21: Orlando, Calvary Assembly Church Thursday April 22: Clearwater, Ruth Eckerd Hall Friday April 23: Bartlesville Wesleyan College Saturday April 24: Dallas, Esther Hoblitzelle Auditorium, Hockaday School Sunday April 25: AM - Dallas Temple Corps (Church) Evening Richardson First Baptist Church Monday April 26: Denver, Nazarene Church Tuesday April 27: Phoenix, Orpheum Theatre Wednesday April 28: Portland, Or. McGuire Auditorium, Warner Pacific College Thursday April 29: San Francisco, Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church Friday April 30: Pasadena, Lake Avenue Congregational Church Saturday May 1: Pasadena, Civic Auditorium Suunday May 2: Pasadena Tabernacle Corps (Church) Whew, even typing that list makes me tired. For those of you on the Trombone list, this band uses only four trombones, as opposed to the regular British Band (norm) of three. They normally are as follows: Two players on First Trombone One player on Second Trombone One player on Bass Trombone For my American friends on the Brass Band list, this is your opportunity to hear a top British Brass Band. Their repetoire is usually composed of mostly Salvation Army compositions, much of it very demanding. There will in all liklihood be something of a classical nature as well which has been arranged for Brass Band. The Soloists are usually David Daws, arguably one of the very top cornet players in Britain today; Andrew Justice - a very smooth and controlled trombone player; Kevin Ashman - a top notch Euphonium player. Sorry, I do not have any info on their programmes or the pieces they will be playing, but in all likelihood we will be hearing the playing of Odyssey - which is the Championship Piece selected for the European Brass Band Contest this year. If you need information as to how to obtain tickets, and details, contact the local Salvation Army near you who if they cannot give you the information should be able to obtain it from their local Divisional Headquarters.
