I'm not sure how long you have been around, but the seperate North
Midlands and South Midlands & East Anglia Areas were only set up in 1984
or '85 as a result of the hatchet job that was done on the old Midlands
area.
The Midland area contest was (admittedly) getting a little ungainly in
the early '80s (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there were about
104 bands in 1981 or '82), but the way the area was split up was a
complete disaster. There are probably fewer bands in the Midlands now,
so a return to one of the old venues, like the Assembly rooms in Derby
wouldn't be a bad move.

Only my opinion, though.

Cheers,
Adrian
