It's sometimes possible to use this on valved instruments(trombones can simply alter the slide position slightly to tune)-our 2nd euph here at Warwick is enormously sharp on high F-G, and we've found by trial and error that 4th valve is the best fingering for F, particularly when played quietly(7th harmonic also). However, I've never heard of a top A being so sharp that it required flattening in this way. This isn't the only possible 3-valve fingering-try 3(obviously), or 1+3, which should be slightly sharp.
