Oh please, Robert! 90 days should be plenty of time for bands who are as supremely good as they would have the rest of the world believe. OK, Montage is a hard piece, but if they can't get it up to standard in 90 days, then they either shouldn't be in the A grade. Also, a trick I have found to work quite well, is to get the band to learn their parts at home rather than in the bandroom wasting everyone else's time. You'd be amazed at what can be acheived that way..... Purcell Variations is a good test for B grade, about the only decent choice for this grade in a number of years. My guys are certainly looking forward to "nailing it" on the day! If you want to gripe about anything, why not complain about the pathetic solo tests this year, particularly the ones chosen for the tubas. Talk about the band movement being in the dark ages.
