Dear List,

As Roger Webster has been the subject of a number of threads in the past, I
thought it might be appropriate to let you all know where/when you can
see/hear him for real! - Sunday 25 April 1999, 3.00pm, Arts Link, Knoll
Road, Camberley, Surrey.

My Father is the Chairman of the Charles Church Camberley Band in Surrey,
and they're putting on a 'Celebration Concert' with Roger Webster as the
very special guest soloist.  Why a 'Celebration Concert'?  Well, they've
got a great deal to celebrate:

1.  They've obtained a lottery grant for 36,000 to a) replace a host of
instruments (which will also improve the facilities for their junior/youth
band) and b) to fund a special commission by Goff Richards (which will have
it's 'world premier' at the concert);

2.  They've raised enough funds (including sponsor support) for a new set
of uniforms (which will be donned at the concert for the first time); and

3.  Their conductor, Gerallt Hughes has been presented (at the London and
Southern Counties Regional contest) with the prestigious 'Diploma of
Honour' by the Worshipful Company of Musicians (1 of only 5 awarded
throughout the country) for his outstanding contribution to the brass band
movement, particularly through the training of young brass band musicians. 


They've already performed a couple of 'Thank You' concerts to acknowledge
the local support for the band over the years, but this particular concert
is the mark of a special acknowledgement of the community's support by
donating all the proceeds from the event to the Mayor of Surrey Heath
Appeal Fund for Cancer Care and Cystic Fibrosis projects at Frimley Park
Hospital.

This concert serves so many purposes, and in the context of this list (and
previous threads), I think it's very significant that the Charles Church
Camberley Band is another 'living proof' example of how hard work and
dedication by its members can keep banding alive and kicking for old and
young alike.

I hope you can spare the time to come and support the event - with Roger
Webster as the guest soloist, it's bound to be an event to remember.  See
