Re: N.W Area Results

If there's one sure fire way to bring a lurker out of the closet it's to
insult him in his anonymity!

On Sunday our conductor, Dick Evans, spoke to Goff Richards after the
results and was indeed told that it was a toss up between Leyland and
Fodens for first place, but that Fodens trombone section had a bit more
'bite' in the final section. I interpret this to mean they were playing
louder not necessarily better than our section. (An examination of the
trombone parts reveals that only the final semi-quaver of the piece is
marked fff).

I'm also told that Goff wrote on the Fodens comments that their opening was
three times louder than anyone else's on the day but that this was OK!!!
Goff had stated in his post-contest comments at the Midlands area the
previous week that tempos were largely at the discretion of the conductor.
Perhaps we can conclude that the dynamics were too?

Regards,

Paul "not as good as Monkey" Warder
Bass Trombone, Leyland Band
