Depends , If I remember right (and I am probably wrong) there are two types
of 'Grace notes' :

Apoggiaturas -  Should be played as a part of the note

&

Acciaccaturas (Probably not spelt right) : Played before the note .

To tell the difference Acciaccautras have a line through the note (The
grace
note)
