This could be another case of identity loss because of Europeanism. In my opinion, you could win being the worlds best kazoo player. This is a Young MUSICIAN competition, not a young mainstream orchestral player competition. For that matter, could it be possible to win the award as a conductor? Aren't they musicians as well? Mind you, I've never heard of a conducting competition (anyone?). I think the adjudication would be extremely difficult and subjective. Still, conductors have to go through auditions, which is the main reason for other musicians having competition experience. just some thoughts Rolf Miezitis "Martin Irwin" <mirwin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> on 24/03/99 07:49:21 Please respond to brass-band@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To: brass-band@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx cc: (bcc: Rolf Miezitis/NFP/North/AU) Subject: RE: BBC Young Musician of the Year I think this situation is appalling, I hope people keep trying to get the euph back in for 2000. I know of one euph player who would have entered (and stood an excellent chance of getting a result) and its not fair on him or anyone else, as he will be too old in 2002. Would the BBC get rid of the euph solo in Fantasia on British Sea Songs at the last night of the proms concert. I don't think so. Why can't they change the rules, its not too late. Good luck to Steven Mead and Bob Childs who I know will still be fighting this one. Martin. not a euph player, but keeping my fingers crossed for them. -- unsubscribe or receive the list in digest form, mail a message of 'help' to
