Re: It's Alright ?

I have no idea about "It's Alright". Your post just reminded me I haven't
written to you for ages. How are you?

Nothing too much going on here. Dave was over 'ome last week
so we had a loaner conductor for a day. Murray brought in an
orchestra conductor. Nice guy, quite good. Only negative for me
was he dwelt too long on some bits -- we were going through
Maccabeus Variations. Good eye-opener though, for some in
the band. He did exactly the same things Dave does to extract the
music from the notes.

Nick Reilly is with us solidly now that he's moved over here. Very
welcome addition.

Also, Simon Boothroyd got married. We had prepared a "care package"
for him but he didn't show up the day before his honeymoon like he was
supposed to. And I thought he was a dedicated brassman!

I've been playing in a community band the last 6 months or so in addition to
Woods. Left the Guards and I'm letting my hair grow. Hope to have a pony
tail, albeit a short one, for Halifax. (A man's gotta do what a man's gotta
do!)

We're also looking into convincing the Norwegian Embassy to hire us to play
for May 17, Norway's National Day. Got any contacts in Norway I could write
to for music? I've got a letter into a band in Stavanger but I haven't heard
back yet.

This weekend Patti and I are going to Toronto to visit with our oldest
daughter. coincidentally, the Hannaford Street Brass band is playing then,
so we're going to take in the concert. Their theme is "We Love A Parade" and
the program, conducted by James Curnow, includes:
Punchinello
The Dambusters
The Red Shield
Entry of the Gladiators.

Also premiering a new work, commissioned by HSSB: Kalenda Maya, by Patrick
Cardy.

Hmmm, hope they play something interesting.

Their next season looks interesting. Soichiro Hokazano (solo Euph) is
featured 2000/March/12; "Brass Down Under" featuring James Morrison,
2000/April/02; and Black Dyke Band is being imported for 2000/Feb/07 -- HSSB
will join them for a finale.

All from me for now. Don't be a stranger.
