Years ago I had a small book from Wright and Round titles "The Easy Way to play
a Brass Instrument." The method of hanging the cornet from a string was
outlined in detail in that book. It was supposed to help develop a phenominal
range and flexability. The author of the article claimed to have use the
technique to teach his son to play as a very young lad (late 1800's I think)
and he grew into a famous cornet soloist in England.

I tried it and didn't have much luck, but I was young and impatient.

Hope this helps your question.
