Westoe Colliery Band is still in existence and are currently doing quite
well. Since appointing Chris Bentham (Solo Trombone at Ever Ready) as
conductor almost two years ago, they have experienced a resurgence in their
fortunes, winning the 4th section CISWO finals twice (97 & 98), the 4th
section Northern Area (98), 4th section Cameron's Contest (98) and 3rd
section Durham Association Contest (99). Having been promoted nationally
into the 3rd section for 1999, the narrowly missed qualification to this
years finals in Nottingham when they finished 3rd.
